Journalist enlists Christopher Eccleston and others to write postcards
Source: How Do News
Freelance journalist Rachel Broady, a former staffer for the Manchester Evening News, has signed up a host of local celebrities in a new initiative to promote the National Year of Reading.
Broady, who co-runs the Creative Collective writing co-operative and teaches at MMU, has recruited stars such as Dave Spikey, Christopher Eccleston and Carol Ann Duffy to write and send postcards from the pages of their favourite books.
Spikey, for example, wrote from Paris in homage to A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.
The cards are now being shown on the BBC Big Screen in Exchange Square and will then ‘tour’ the country’s 16 other big screens in a bid to inspire the UK public to read more.
In addition, postcards have been made available for the public to download and write, while they’ve also been sent out to reading and writing groups, libraries, schools, colleges and bookshops.
This gives people the chance to ape the celebrities and write postcards from their own favourite books, while also earning the chance to win £25 in book vouchers.
MMU helped to create and distribute the cards, while the project was developed and supported by Manchester Libraries, Manchester Adult Education Services and Borders Bookshops. Full Story

Doctor Who Church Up For Sale
Source: Wales Online
A CHURCH that featured in one of the most popular episodes of Doctor Who is to be sold.
St Paul’s Church in Grangetown, Cardiff, was used as a location in the hit BBC1 show’s episode Father’s Day in 2005.
In it, Billie Piper’s character Rose asks the Doctor to take her to visit the day her father Pete died. Rose saves him from being run over and they end up going to a wedding at the church.
Parish priest Father Ben Andrews said it had been decided to invest money in a modern, comfortable 21st century church rather than continue pouring money into the crumbling Victorian building which was too big to maintain.
We hope the community will support the Church at this difficult time and support us as we seek to rebuild a presence in a contemporary building that really can serve in a useful and meaningful way for generations to come.
He predicted the church would need £1m worth of repairs over the next 10 years.
And although he was not sure how much the church would fetch, he expected it would be in the region of £300,000 to £500,000. Full Story
1 commentApologies... ChrisEccleston.com back online
Yes for the past couple of days ChrisEccleston.com and The Little Hulton Forum has been down due to weather problems where the server is located. It has been a very stressful couple of days, but I am thrilled to have the site back up and running.
Sometime this week we will be switching servers to a new and improved server. Nothing will change on your side(that I know of), but because of that the server will be down for a short time during the move. I will let you know before the move and during this time if you need to reach me you know you can find me at The Console or Doctor Who Online. You can also email me at my Gmail fantasticchriseccleston@gmail.com
Again, apologies for people who visit ChrisEccleston.com daily and to the fantastic members of Little Hulton who have been paitiently waiting.

Glad to be back!

Doctor Who DVD Files Magazine "Market Tested"
Source: Down The Tube News Blog
Last month DownTheTubes.net reported on a new Doctor Who Magazine in development. When they asked GE Fabbri when they would be putting them out to test in the UK this was their response...
This magazine is still in a development stage and we are not able to confirm where and when this magazine will be tested in the UK.
|
One Month Later... Although GE Fabbri confirmed the Doctor Who DVD Files part work was in development at the time of our first report, they told downthetubes the project was at a very early stage but that early development has now reached a limited "market test" in the Tyne Tees TV region of the UK. Copies of the test are on sale in outlets such as WH Smiths in Scarborough and the title, which we're told will start with a focus on the new series that began with Christopher Eccleston but may later feature older stories from the original Doctor Who, is clearly aimed at younger readers, as was Battles in Time, which recently completed its initial run. Based on the test issues it appears the first run of the Magazine will cover all four seasons of the show to date and the Christmas specials. Full Story |

Weta Collectibles brings you a great, new Doctor Who statue based on the episode Dalek and staring my favorite Doctor, Christopher Eccleston. The Dalek's Destruction Statue measures 11.42' x 12.6" and is a great addition to anyone's collection...
