Chris to play drug lord in TV thriller… OH MY!

July 05th, 2010 | Category: Chris Eccleston,Movies,News,Television

Source: BBC News

Christopher Eccleston has been cast as a drug lord in a new BBC thriller, The Shadow Line.

The actor – who recently played John Lennon in the BBC's Lennon Naked – is joined in the cast by Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sir Antony Sher and Stephen Rea.

The six-part "noir thriller" looks at the impact of an underworld figure on a wide range of characters.

Written, produced and directed by Hugo Blick, the series will be filmed in the Isle of Man and screened next year.

Blick's previous work includes Marion and Geoff, a dark comedy series which starred Rob Brydon.

The cast also includes Rafe Spall (Desperate Romantics), Kierston Wareing (Fish Tank, Five Daughters) and Lesley Sharp (Playing the Field, Clocking Off).

The BBC casting announcement said they play "diverse individuals whose worlds become interwoven after the murder of drug baron Harvey Wratten".

Ben Stephenson, BBC controller for drama commissioning, said: "I am thrilled that we have attracted such world-class talent to Hugo Blick's thrilling scripts.

"Chiwetel and Chris are two of our finest actors and we couldn't be more excited to have them, and the rest of the amazing cast, on board for this original and epic six-hour series."

Filming begins in the Isle of Man this month.

Chris has always played a FANTASTIC villain. He is the Perfect Drug and I would like a taste!

Find out how Doctor Who was brought back to life from the people who made it happen – executive producers Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner.

The final episode of Doctor Who with Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner at the helm, screened at the end of 2009. BAFTA welcomed them both to a special event looking back at their remarkable journey as the show's executive producers on 15 December 2009.

Journalist Caitlin Moran talked to Russell and Julie about their 6 year working relationship as executive producers on Doctor Who and the terrifying responsibility of bringing the show back to a new generation of viewers with Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant in the lead role.

Amongst a range of illuminating insights, the pair discussed their attempt to reinvigorate of the Saturday night prime time slot, the emergence of BBC Wales as a major player on the production landscape and explored why the character of the Doctor is such an extraordinary figure for writers to work with.

"The Writer can never be as clever as The Doctor … he is the most remarkable invention."

Christopher Eccleston plays Lennon

November 29th, 2009 | Category: Chris Eccleston,Movies,Television

Source: Variety

LONDON — The turbulent and often tragic life of John Lennon is to be the subject of another British film.

In the latest biopic, commissioned by BBC Four, former "Doctor Who" actor Christopher Eccleston plays the rock star in "Naked Lennon."

Pic highlights the years from 1967 to 1971 when the Beatle was ending his first marriage to Cynthia as Yoko Ono entered his life, coping with the death of manager Brian Epstein and the group’s own messy and acrimonious disintegration.

Also featured are Naoko Mori, whose credits include “Torchwood” and “Absolutely Fabulous,” who plays Ono, and seasoned British thesp Rory Kinnear as Epstein.

Other cast members include Claudie Blakley, who featured in the BBC period drama “Cranford,” as Cynthia Lennon, and Irish actor Andrew Scott as Paul McCartney.

BBC4 has established a reputation in the U.K. for backing low-budget, high-quality biopics such as recent film portraying children’s writer Enid Blyton, “Enid,” starring Helena Bonham-Carter.

“Lennon Naked” was written by Robert Jones, the co-creator of BBC TV drama “Party Animals” about political wannabes.

It is being filmed in London by U.K. shingle Blast! Films, winners of a BAFTA for “Hunger,” and will air in Blighty next year.

Chris plays Fred Noonan, an American Flight Navigator who chose to serve as Amelia Earharts Navigator on her trip around the world. He was last seen in Lae, New Guinea on July 2, 1937, and disappeared with Amelia Earhart somewhere over the western Pacific during their World Flight.

In this Interview Chris talks about being in a film with a woman as the central character, how difficult it was to fly planes in the 30's and how he felt as Swank playing Amelia.

New Orleans, Mon Amour now on I Tunes

October 13th, 2009 | Category: Chris Eccleston,Movies,News

Now New Orleans, Mon Amour is available on iTunes.

I usually wouldn't pay the 14.99 on iTunes but this movie is well worth it. Sure the love story is the main part of the movie but it is the shots of the the Damaged town that makes this film. It was the people working together to repair their community  and the true words written in graffiti that kept me hanging on wanting to see more. Don't get me wrong, having Chris in this film made it even better. He was again, FANTASTIC, and he knows how to do love stories. So if you cant see it anywhere else you can catch it on iTunes. You can pay the 3.99 to watch it once or 14.99 to own it. Seeing Chris in that baseball cap near the end was well worth it. HOT!
