1Chris Christopher Backs Christie Charity
Quote:Salford-born actor Christopher Eccleston, who has starred in a string of movies, has backed the Christie charity and Salford Advertiser appeal to raise £250,000 towards the new £17 million Christie radiotherapy centre being built at Salford Royal.

The former Doctor Who star, who has recently signed up to play Beatle John Lennon in a new BBC drama, is urging fellow Salfordians to get involved in the campaign, which is being backed by Christopher’s local newspaper, the Salford Advertiser.

Christopher said; “Having supported The Christie for many years, I am delighted that they are bringing their expert and life-saving care to my home city of Salford.

Link to press release

Times like this wish I was in Salford.

How about a community event (With Ness's permission of course) to help raise some money for this.

Thoughts on this?

I know it's asking for Salfordian's but be nice to support Chris in our own little community way. And in some way Cancer will/has affected all of us wither friend or family. Sadly Grandmother doesn't get help from Christie's in her area but I support cancer research and aid in any form.

OK the Facebook group run by Ruth are setting up a "Just Giving" page and Christie's are working with "Just giving" to make sure it get's to the right place.

Would that be something the community be into? Would be a great way to show support and with a paper behind it as well could mean some publicity for the website.

Hi All

Thought I'd repost here to give you the info, as I originally posted in the General thread!

The Just Giving page is set up, and you can go there at
http://www.justgiving.com/TeamEcclesnut

It IS organized by the F/Book page, but really, I want all the Chris fans in the world to get together and raise as much as possible, so please feel free to join in, if thats what you want to do from here. (Obviously you may want to do your own events etc, so please don't think I am barging in here, Ness!) I think a lot of us are members of all the main Chris sites anyway!

If every Chris fan donated even a pound we would make a pretty good amount!

As you have said, from the page you can donate from anywhere by credit, debit or paypal. The donations go straight to the Christie charity, and I have arranged with Ste Anderson, the community fundraiser for this appeal, to have all our donations redirected specifically to the Salford Appeal. (He did ask me why the banana in the photo, had to explain the whole banana/Doctor Who connection!)

We have set up a twitter account, and I have written to inform Chris's agent, as although we are clear that we are not official, we are sort of using his name by identifying ourselves as fans raising money, so I just sent over the info out of respect really.

So please do stop by and check out the page (if you click on the photos bit there is a photo of Chris which one of our members took on the set of Amelia - he was the set medic!)

Sorry, Ness, I will stop taking over your forum with my group now...lol....how RUDE! But I am just trying to get it out there to all Chris fans, because I think we can really make a big difference if we go for it - we have made 60 pounds on the page in the first day.
YAY!

Ruth x
ooh, btw, you mentioned the paper - the woman I emailed first from the appeal asked if we would be prepared to do press if theSalford Advertiser wants to do a piece. I said yes, of course - a piece in the paper would raise more money, and would be a big shout out for Chris too, to see how hes got his fans motivated! (The world needs to know he is fantastic. How do they not already?!) So if they ask me, I will let you know, and I can let THEM know all the groups who supported the whole thing.

Rx
(I have spent all day on this. I have a numb behind and am developing some sort of repetitive strain injury......lol)

I'm quite excited tonight, as we made 134 pounds already, and I only put the page up yesterday! Chris fans are fantastic! (Hey, we knew that!)

Thanks for donating!

I am promoting the page on facebook, twitter, newspapers, radio stations, friends and family, anything I can think of....actually I'm getting a bit weirdly obsessive, but hopefully it'll work! One of our members in Seattle, USA, owns a bakery andis going to auction some cupcakes! Love her!
